It’s also why sneering at politicians as a class is so awful. Being a politician is an actual important skilled job that we have allowed to be co-opted by con-men.
Having good skilled politicians is important and valuable for us all actually.

Conservatives started losing and decided to poison the well. Growing up I heard nothing but the nastiest things about politics and politicians and that you were dumb if you chose public service over private sector, all in the service of making running the country into mud wrestling

The reason we're perpetually having the "are women human" discourse is ultimately that there are people who will answer "no" and for good or ill we still have to figure out how to share a reality with them. There's no cosmic referee who can declare that opinion to be against the rules.

Right now the rule in force is that if it makes money it’s allowable. Which is why, as an example, toxic awful, fundamentally corrosive to the social fabric, Joe Rogan is paid millions by a company people are still happy to annually publicly announce they pay money to.
