Since COVID, all of my games have moved online. As we get older, and have kids, online play has allowed us to continue gaming together as best friends. Almost entirely online via Discord and/or Roll20. These days face to face gaming is limited to conventions/meetups.
Used to run Call of Cthulhu for colleagues at work but when we opened a London office most of the players moved to there - evening meets weren't practical then :/

Everyone we play with are now all over the country, so we play online, but we allow physical dice or digital depending on player preference. Trust not to fudge roles us one of our tablr rules.

Trust is huge! Same here, we're all over the place since COVID. Online has been a blessing, even if it's not my number one preference.

We aren't a combat-heavy game. Mostly description, investigation, and social interaction.

Love it. How do you like RPing over voice chat? It's one thing that always feels a bit less natural than in person. People talking over each, awkward silences, etc.

Our group actually formed by playing online during COVID as a way of staying social. When things normalized, we actually used playing online to branch outside our local area to replace a couple of dropouts. I'm so used to the speed and QoL of VTTs now, I think I'd struggle to play F2F every week!

Agreed! Whenever we get together to play in person we don't get nearly as far into the adventure...but in some ways I think the game flows better. It's also a different experience, which is nice.

One of my favorite folks I run games for on a regular basis lives on the other side of the world from me. Silver linings, right?

That’s not to say I don’t love a good in person game.

Absolutely! There are so many perks to running digitally. My friends are so scattered now that it would be impossible to play in person...but still, I dream of simpler times.

Oh, same. Pre-COVID games - especially back in college - were 6+ hour sessions and caffeine-fueled pizza devouring mayhem. I miss those days (though being three kids into this life has curtailed my energy for such things).

I hear ya! Life gets in the way of gaming a lot for us, but it just makes those in person sessions so much sweeter. We try to evoke a feeling of the old days when we get together: lots of soda, chips, and no phones.

Incredible! I just closed out a 10 year campaign last year, as well as a 2.5 year game. We're about a year into another now. Only since 2020 have we been online though. We make an effort to get together every few months to play in person...mostly to test adventures for publishing.

I will add, it's a group that lasted for 15 years. Additions and subtraction of players, some local friends. Others I met during my times working for DnD adventurers league. And the rest on their friends who are now my friends.

Trying to move back to in-person as much as we can. Pathfinder Society here is in person and practical because of its nature. Non-Society games are a bit of a problem because of scheduling, but that would be as difficult on-line. Certainly those games were more consistent online during COVID.
