During cold war, East Berliners/Germans could watch western TV and listen to radio from West. There was no way to control the information leaking through the border and dispelling Soviet propaganda. The internet is an Autocrat's dream! Much easier to manipulate/silence.

I still find the internet exciting. I strive to use it to find information that I can use, or just interests me. I used to use the library for this. I love educating myself. The ignorance comes from people looking to connect here, and being sedated by algorithms instead. It’s quite sad.

I suppose any form of mass media has the power to shift cultures, societies, people, but the internet can shape vast numbers in just minutes. That’s the problem today.

No, but i never imagined the internet would become so centralized to a few websites. When the net was in it's golden age, we had multiple websites and participated in diverse forums based on specific interests.

Its a means of information transport.
