"You know why Trump arrested Mahmoud Khalil first? Precisely because he’s *not* the most sympathetic figure. His views are bigoted and extreme. I certainly don’t want to be in the business of defending him. But that’s the thing about freedom."

I just posted the same question. All the article says is
"And I am sorry, but despite his careful statements I am picking up what Khalil was laying down. The guy’s entire identity was wrapped up in hating Israel."
I can't tell if it's based on something or just an assumption.
This is why I love your coverage. When we lost mainstream media, we lost the rational voices. I have several examples where my leftist feed was just plain wrong. We have to stay honest like this, thank you.
FYI: KKK came out in force in VA in 2017 bearing torches and terrorizing students with chants of "Blood and soil" and "Jews will not replace us." Only time anyone got arrested was when they clashed with the residents.
I’m a retired cop, that arrest is beyond unlawful. Violation of 1,3,4,5th amendments beyond that any rookie would refuse to execute warrant. I clearly remember starting day 1 in Army basic training following unlawful orders will get you in prison. Didn’t save Nazis from jail won’t protect MAGA
Where's the "bigoted and extreme" part? This piece and the CNN article it links to both provide evidence of his views being pretty reasonable. What am I missing?
“But that’s the thing about freedom: You have to defend it for everyone, or it applies to no one.” A quote from the article. 100% correct. Think about it.
But we all know that if Khalil had been a KKK fan instead of a Hamas fan, 99% of his "principled civil libertarian" defenders would be screaming for him to rot in jail.
like hell if we would. If there's an actual crime he committed, got caught for, prosecuted and convicted, then yeah I'm glad when a shitty person meets justice. But never ever will I accept fascism trampling our rights just because I don't like the person.
America was created to escape tyrants who arbitrarily arrested and persecuted people just because they said so. Anyone who doesn't understand that is an idiot.
I admire principled civil libertarians like the ACLU defending Nazis at Skokie. Not sure if I could stomach being one of them.
But Khalil is not a political refugee and most of his defenders aren't civil libertarians. I'm sure the turd will be treated like royalty in Iran or similar tyrannies.
He's not a political refugee, but Trump made him into a political prisoner. Trump is shitting on the American system and that is unacceptable in a president.
utterly beside the point what his views are. Just underscores how clueless Trump & Co. really are about how Americans feel about having our rights trampled.
If anyone can be arrested here without probable cause or not even a scintilla of evidence that a crime was committed, taken from their home and placed into custody, it can and will happen to anyone.
Don’t think you will be exempt.
If it can happen to anyone, it can happen to everyone.

Is it that belief that you're claiming is bigoted and extreme, or did he express some genuinely concerning beliefs that I haven't heard about?

This guy has watched his people get slaughtered. Why wouldn’t he support them?
Does NOT make him extreme
It’s a Constitutional guarantee.
It’s not that way in other countries, even European democracies.
What protects others protects us, and I promise people will come to deeply regret throwing this right away.

Then, why the hell are you calling him a bigot in your headline? You fucking hacks!
