Don Chipp resurrected his career in later life by throwing off the shackles of a major party.
The freedom to speak plainly & honestly brought significant success to the Australian Democrats.
Malcolm? Still have that Field Marshall baton?

Are Australians not aware of this?
What cave have you been hiding in?
If, if China invade us… And blame Australia for starting the war!
That ignorant Judas orange weirdo will use extortion for our minerals.
Just like the Judas orange weirdo and the Americans are doing to Ukraine.

Donald Trump has shown a covetous greed for the natural resources held by other nations. If he could find any angle to put pressure on Australia to give him something (preferably everything) for nothing, he’d be in there.
The USA is a bully and has hijacked our weak politicians. It is extorting money under the pretext of supplying subs that will be useless and probably never materialise. @albomp.bsky.social is a complete idiot to sign up for this without due diligence.
I think the US we all knew, and had mixed feelings for, is now dead.
Replaced by a nation-state riddled with a terminal case of Dark Enlightenment cancer, whose foreign policy goals are somewhere between '4 the lulz' and outright authoritarianism.
We cannot assume they have any regard for Australia.
USA will use us as long as it is to their benefit and make us 52nd state if are complacent.
No Dutton and cut ties to Trump before it is too late.
He's right there, but what I want to hear from him is why he was unable to do anything substantial while he was PM.
PMs aren't kings, they need voting consensus from cabinet and party and he had hostiles like ScoMo, spud, and other such critters.
Scomos preselection story is key to the rot, I reckon
Dutton is a pure sleazy politician, he’d go with the flow just to win.. Albo truly thinks what the rest of us do but keeps his mouth shut, because the media criticises Rudd all the time for his remarks on Trump. The public has to pressure Albo to stand up, and make arrangements with other countries
Most of them Americans - MAGA types particularly- think Australia doesn’t exist, when they see Aussies they believe it’s just actors - they are dumb uneducated
Yes we need to stop regarding the US as some kind of benevolent older brother we need to suck up to, and more like a deranged schoolyard bully we need to distance ourselves from, fast….
In a way, I hope the orange turd says 50% of Australian minerals belong to him. I am sure Australians will then give his supporters here a big kick in the arse they deserve.
My recollection may be wrong, but I believe that was driven by the Luddite Abbott, spurred on by the Murdoch empire that had yet to realise that there was a buck to be made from streaming. A terrible outcome for Australia though, much like nuclear power will be under Dutton if he ever gets in.
Sorry, but I'm curious, the meme, apart from the pic of Turnbull, is all words, how would alt text be beneficial?
This is a genuine question, I'm in no way trying to be a smart-arse.
Happy to help!
Alt text (alternative text) makes the text available to anyone who can’t see the picture because it is too small/faint/corrupted/dark for them to use.
Picture of Malcolm Turnbull (former prime minister of Australia) with the words: we cannot assume that America has any altruistic regard for Australia. Our leaders have got to stand up for Australia, and we’ve got to have the ability to defend ourselves.
I have found that you can also ‘copy’ the text part of the meme and ‘paste’ it into the alt box. (discovered after re-typing text a number of times!) 😊💙
I'm not a #Conservative, if anything I'm very much a #Lefty who can't stand #RightWingers as they are so selfish
#Turdbull would have held the PM's job longer if only he had the #Balls to sack #Morrison & #Dutton & tell the USA to #FuckOff as we don't want a target on our backs with China
Thats what I said, #Turdbull didn't have the balls to be PM otherwise he would've sacked #TheThug & #Morrison
He was a #PuppetLeader controlled by #Murdoch & the Billionaires
Now he's free he speaks out but nobody listens, because he didn't have the balls to be an effective leader
It wasn't the youthful idealism that brought him unstuck, it was the deals he made for the spill votes. And I dunno about having him anywhere near nation-building projects again
He'd need to grow a back bone and stand up when it mattered. Had and has a lot of good things to say before his PM stint and since his ousting...pity he didn't take the opportunity when he had the power.

Aukus? There seems to be no political will to do so.

America in just one month has gone from allies to alienation.
How goes it with NewZealand ?
No point in crying over spilt milk

He's probably got over the youthful idealism that brought him unstuck last time.
I don't care whether the jelly has set, it's all too late for me to care what he has to say.
Just not the political instinct to know when to make a strategic retreat.
(Sometimes that's a good thing; sometimes it isn't)
