To put a finer point on what Chris is saying here, I have several cases right now where opposing counsel filed motions against my client because my client crowdfunded for utility bills.

I have always thought that being worried people asking for help might be scammers is a legacy of the idea that people who ask for help are morally bad.

Yes. I know. I think I assumed, erroneously, that the internet wasn't a real place that could be used against you in a court of law. I realize now how absurd this sounds as I type it.
