Knowing it's been almost four years since Disney shuttered them, I'm still sad at Blue Sky Studios being closed. While I'm still thrilled we did get Nimona, I still have to wonder what else they could've brought to animation this decade after it. I know it could've been good. - ThreadSky

They probably would've closed for the fact that they cheated on their taxes before the buyout and got outed for it right as they were closing.

Bluesky studios is one of the most underrated animation studios sure their movie aren't great, but they have the best-looking animation style they have, and they made great films like epic, Horton hears a who, the peanuts movie, spies in disguise, robots, Rio, and the ice age movies

From what I've heard, they were first CGI animated studio to use ray-tracing for their movies, which is why their mid 2000s stuff like Robots and Ice Age The Meltdown look sooooo much better than pretty much any other CGI cartoon from that era. Good stuff.

Maybe things couldve been different but Im gonna be honest. Blue Sky had its writing on the wall for awhile now even long before Disney had them. The last Ice Age bombed, their other movies havent been doing well. Fox was probably gonna pull the plug on them sooner or later.

I will always maintain this was the worst mistake in Disney's history.

It's unfortunate because while Nimona woud thankfully change their legacy, there would have been a timeline where it never happened and Blue Sky would have remained as "the Ice Age studio" because of how much Fox milked that franchise when they had a lot going with their other films.

Granted, yes, Blue Sky's filmography wasn't the most groundbreaking stuff, but they help pioneer a lot of 3D animation styles other studios would adopt. Most notably the 2.5D style with "The Peanuts Movie" that lead to films like Spider-verse, Mutant Mayhem, and more.

BlueSky was my favorite studio. It gave me my favorite film franchise Ice Age and The Peanuts Movie. I will forever be upset at Disney for axing them like that.

I second this so much. To this day I still imagine what could've been if that acquisition from 2019 never went through in the first place, and 20th Century kept their independence from one of their big rivals.

Their track record wasn't that great, TBH. The only thing keeping the Ice Age movies alive was Scrat, and the rest of their movies were mid at best. No big loss for me.

Holy crap. Almost four years already, I'm getting old. While Blue Sky is not the best, but they were charming and pretty underrated. Even with Disney is now continuing Ice Age without Blue Sky, especially with Ice Age 6 for 2026. At least there's still a part that's keeping Blue Sky's legacy alive.

To be honest, I would mostly blame Bob Chapek for shutting down blue sky but even though there were animators, I did lose their jobs there but I’m happy that they did get new jobs a different different animation studios and I’m happy that Nimona did see the light of day
