hey Jan look up Okinomiyaki, particularly Hiroshima style. They're easy to customize and fun to make! All ingredients should be available at Japantown, especially look for those little spatulas.
Go for some izakaya food! Can't go wrong with Oden, agedashi tofu, dried/preserved salmon (esp if there's gonna be beer), potato mochi, marinaded eggs, seasoned cabbage, etc
Oden! It's a big pot filled with veggies, fish cakes, tofu, eggs, all simmering in a pot filled with a dashi broth. Warm, comforting, great for groups. Usually cooked/served in a big clay pot on a single burner.
