Maybe we don’t need to forgive and forget the uncle that’s been trying to exploit your aunt that had cancer and dementia for years before she passed away??? Maybe we just forget him??

As I’ve gotten older I’ve softened a bit. Probably because some of the people I was holding resentments toward have died.
I’ll say I’m now equal parts these ideas.
1. Family is earned.
2. Forgiveness is for you, not them.
3. If they are actively behaving poorly, back to number 1.
Have literally done this. It really sucks but sometimes it has to happen. Better for me to think about my grandfather and the final year he got to have surrounded by family that loved him than it is to think about the uncle that nearly killed him.
Don't mind me, I'm just a dummy on the internet. But I believe the "Forgive" is more for your sake, in cases like this. It's about letting go of the hate or anger. It is possible to forgive, while also completely cutting them out of your life.
