From what I've heard wrestlers say on podcasts, etc. they hurt but it's a lot less dangerous/scary than a lot of other tools to bloody yourself up because you're not gonna accidentally open an artery or slice thru something that needs surgery to fix

I’ve heard one wrestler say that lying on the mat “unconscious” is scarier, since you can’t see if you’re about to get stepped on by accident by the other guy(s).
Not the most serious injuries, but much more common than you might think, apparently.
