Well they could have sent some troops in the past 3 or 4 years, honestly I think the US gov't wanted it to continue, to wear down Russia with a proxy war, just keep sending them arms, and hope that Russia will run out of money.

The war should end. But it doesn't mean Russia deserves any 'treats'. They started it, they should pay for it. Ukraine already has with all who have died thanks to what Russia did. The fact that far too many people want it to end but don't want Russia punished, is the more disgusting thing to me.
