WOW
The new French ambassador to Sweden just definitely included allies in the French vital interest:
”Our French vital interests also include the interests of our allies. In that sense, the nuclear umbrella also covers our allies and of course Sweden is among them”

To me, this is good. Europe needs its own nuclear umbrella and we all should (be willing to) pay for that.
It doesn’t prevent other MSs (Poland and Baltic states) to develop European tactical nukes, so that EU deterrence is made of different levels.
We can integrate our armies, and should. But a coherent EU army, of which there are many people talking, is fantasy. It can only become reality if/when the EU has a political center that member states cannot walk away from on an electoral whim.
To make our European defence forces stronger, we need more coordination on buying, arms, more common standards, etc.
He has understood that the EU is part of our future.
Totally independently from the USA.
I hate to say it but Europe should begin in a discrete manner to investigate the development of its own Nuclear deterrence against ANY potential rogue nuclear power. UK needs to be a part of this for one of the legs.
