Huh, that's cool. If this is possible, why can't the Sydney ferries also be electric? They are also made there in Tasmania.

📢 A milestone has been reached in the construction of the world's biggest electric ship in Tasmania with the vessel launched onto the River Derwent this morning. It is bound for South America later this year where it will ferry people and cars across the River Plate between Argentina and Uruguay.
