The idea that the minority has power is insane
The tyranny of the minority sucks
80% of Americans agree on major policy issues, yet the minority rule in the opposite manner.
Citizen United was key to a kleptocracy.
Ds need to win some working class rural voters.
Pennsylvania is also headed toward a recount with Republicans leading. GOP senators would represent 46% of the 50-state population with Pennsylvania & 44% without it
Graphs from Geoffrey Skelley (left) & Charles Franklin
These graphs show the national vote margin (left) & number of Democratic seats (right)
Republicans last represented more people than Democrats following the 1996 elections, but they have won the Senate in 8 of 14 elections since 1998
Trump—who lost the popular vote for his first term—picked 3 of those 5. GW Bush—who lost it for his first term—picked the other 2.
Now, Trump has another minority-rule Senate for new appointments
Malapportionment may get worse in future decades as Americans becomes increasingly concentrated in several large states
It was a compromise, not some idealized institution, and it wasn’t designed with a hyper-nationalized two-party system in mind
It is obvious that it is not a democracy.
