We used to buy Tassie farmed salmon for ourselves and offcuts for the dog.

Then I came across information on line about all the health and environmental problems with salmon farming.
Now we buy Burramundi (farmed in Vietnam and available at

Might wanna look deeper into that. Apparently most of it isn't even Barramundi and there's also a lot of metals and other toxic elements in the waterways where they're fished, plus poor working conditions, bad fishing practices, etc.

On the plus side, after reading Flanagan's story, it helped catalyse my efforts to lean more vegetarian/vegan. Now I only occassionally eat any meat at all and generally only when too lazy to cook for myself.

So, you know, kinda a self-own for the fisheries in way.

There used to be bumper stickers on all the pick-up trucks in Alaskan coastal towns saying "Friends don't let friends eat farmed salmon" cos all their salmon was wild caught & it was a dig at the Canadians who were farming salmon. And, look what a sh*tbox that's turned into in BC, Canada!
