I resorted to using my domain name as my handle. I know not everyone has that option, and it can be expensive especially if you want to protect your contact information (DomainsByProxy), but it’s all I’ve got as someone who is not a person of note. Also, trolls could buy a domain to appear legit.

The use of domains as handles does provide verification in a pretty secure way, but it requires some technical savvy to use properly.

I hope it's like Old Twitter if they implement it because seeing a bunch of blue moths or something indicating everyone is checked out would be the worst kind of visual clutter. The old official blue checks stood out because they were so rare? Helpful, I thought. Made them mean something.

I agree because I have found that most of them aren’t real. Honestly, the only way I truly trust it is if they say it on another established account they have on other social media like IG or X. That’s how I found out about Pete’s 👇.

That's the whole reason for the whole @ thing. If people set things up correctly, they get verified by the listed domain, and then you can check that domain and see if it's legit.
