Assuming all fanfiction is written poorly really just shows you've never been caught in the chokehold of a 150k slowburn that changed the course of your life at 2:40am written by someone whose username has 4 Zs in it and they only wrote one fic and then vanished like an ethereal legend.

I started a complicated NCIS plotfic years ago - posted the first 3 chapters, I think, then had the drive I had the whole story on get destroyed by a cat. I was so demoralized I've never even thought about trying to rewrite it. And still get requests to finish it, 13 years later.

I don’t assume it’s written poorly, and I have zero issue with it as long as they aren’t trying to make money off it. What baffles me is why -super- talented people don’t just reconfigure it from the get go because they deserve their own trajectory that earns them $.

Okay? But I have fun writing my -own- stuff. So again that’s not a real answer. If they are happy to write and make no money that’s okay but talent has zero to do with that. I write for money and have a regular career so I’m not overstressed lol.

I've done both. Fanfic is more fun for me because there is no pressure to make money. You may enjoy what you do, fine. Many writers do not like the need to market and promote. They enjoy their fannish community. The canon inspires them in a way OCs don't.

If you want to share what you write, you should be able to make anything from it. If you do it in fan fic land it does limit that. I as someone who does her own characters doesn’t trust randoms with my darlings for $.
