Yep. It's all about the number of eyeballs and testers a particular configuration has. If I'm not willing to potentially debug and/or fix a particular thing, then I tend to stick with defaults.

I've probably swapped the uxtheme.dll file at least a 100 times over the XP years. (for myself, friends and customers) Was a fan of the "vampire" theme (black and red)

I use Linux Mint and have only changed a few customisation settings using options within the system. I use it to run the software I need for my work reliably with no nagging or spying, not to play with the operating system.

I like being able to customize and more power to people that put energy and skill into it but these days, other than some background tweaks and font tweaks in the terminal, I leave it be.

I've been using Ubuntu for about 5 years and have yet to find a need to customize to any significant extent. I must have adapted to the system instead of trying to make it something it isn't.
