man twitch's idiotic recent change is a legit bummer. speedrun leaderboards will be fucked, highlights from retired or dead streamers permanently vanished, so much stuff just gone forever because they're incompetent at what they do

VODs and clips are not part of this limit, and highlights are just marked sections on a VOD, right?
so nothing is really completely lost, just..... much harder to find?
I didn't even know highlights existed until yesterday though, so I'm probably missing something here
No, VODs are automatically deleted after either 7, 14 or 60 days depending on your status.
Making things into Highlights was the only way to keep it on your channel.
When the Highlight is gone, the content is gone.
auto-saved VODs by default automatically expire after 7, 14, or 60 days depending on your account status (i.e., partner/affiliate/neither). you could, however, choose to indefinitely save all or edited versions of VODs as "highlights". all of those that exceed the 100 hour limit will be deleted
there are streamers with thousands of hours of archived video saved as highlights who will now have to spend a truly insane amount of time manually downloading their entire stream history, one might hope, with the intent of uploading elsewhere for archival's sake, but damn, that's a lot of work
They already screwed it up by stopping ad-blockers (And adding pre-rolls), as well as extensions that are constantly in your face and only removable BTTV. Also on the mobile app, you can't remove chat completely and it has a terrible inaccessible interface. And a lack of live notifications.
yeah, yesterday. Starting immediately you cannot make new highlights/VODs if you have more than 100 hours of them, and then in two months everything exceeding that will be permanently deleted. so everyone, who still exists at least, is in a mad dash to download and reupload. which isn't trivial!
