Of course they can. Did being out of power stop Reps from “doing things”? No. They can scream & yell & explain the damage being done. They can throw up opposition. There is a LOT they can do beyond rolling over & playing dead, which is what they are doing now.
Dems are the opposition party. Instead of throwing up opposition & screaming about the current constitutional crisis, they are rolling over like dogs. Just bc they aren’t “doing” the damage themselves doesn’t mean they don’t have a job to do. They represent US & we want them to fight.
they should run towards every camera and mic, hold press conferences (on the steps of the capitol, like marge), type their thumbs bloody on social media. scream it from the roofs that what he’s doing is illegal. explain the consequences, in the darkest colors.
and obstruct, obstruct, obstruct. no unanimous confirmation votes in the senate – no yes-votes at all! through every available procedural wrench in the wheel.
Yes. 100% ALL of these things. BlueSky is growing daily & yet I see few Dems & nothing but platitudes from Schumer & bible quotes from Jeffries. It’s enough to make me pop a blood vessel. I can not get over their bottomless fecklessness in this moment.
trump posted this last night. none of this happened, of course. there’s neither water flowing from the pacific northwest nor anything he could turn on. the military did not invade california.
people believe shit like this, though. but dems are “tuning out the noise” …
ffs, dems in congress don’t get their 6-figure salaries to twiddle their thumbs when trump is burning the country down. if it can’t be expected to act like an opposition, they can go home and raise chickens or whatever.
jesus christ. they should run towards every camera and mic, hold press conferences (on the steps of the capitol, like marge), type their thumbs bloody on social media. scream it from the roofs that what he’s doing is illegal. explain the consequences, in the darkest colors.

What kind of response do you want? If they majorities in either house they could use the power of the legislature. They don’t. They could sue. Do they have standing to sue when a member of the NLRB gets fired? The party could pay for legal costs. Start a Democracy Fund. Run ads in swing districts?
Anything but rolling over like dogs would be nice. When Reps didn’t have power, did they cower & bend to Dems? No. They made everything a dog & pony show. And it WORKED. Dems need to figure out how to be an effective opposition party bc whatever they’re doing now isn’t cutting it.
What do you folks defending Dems get out of it? Are you suggesting they are behaving like an even remotely effective opposition party with Schumer out there hammering on bipartisanship?
First, show me where I defended Dem leadership? Second, there are 100’s of “Do something” posts without any reasonable suggestion of what you expect. What I get from your reply is “dog & pony show.” I don’t know what that means. Sit-in on the floor if Congress? Sending strip-grams to the Speaker?
2/ there are legislative tactics one can use to delay, defeat, modify legislation, but is going on now is not legislative. It’s the President abusing his authority over the executive branch. Aside from taking them to court and using better language in public communication, what’s a practical idea?
3/ it probably very important to start the campaign for key house races right now and nationalize it as much as possible. I have other ideas but there was a reason I asked for yours.
What did Reps do when they were out of power? Do that. Hold press conferences every day. Stand on the Capitol steps & scream until people listen (like MTG). Do you not understand they are the opposition party? There are many ways to show opposition & posting bible quotes on SM ain’t one of them.
In what ways do you think MTG bloviating on the Capitol steps limited Joe Biden’s executive authority. The problem with the analogy is Biden did not abuse his power. Trump is. It’s a different problem. I agree they need more but this still sounds like a lot of do something.
And you basically asked what response I want as if Dems are currently doing everything in their power to oppose trump. Do you think that’s the case? That there is nothing more to be done?
To anyone who comes in defending Dems, ask yourself if they are providing an effective opposition to trump. Remember when Obama won & McConnell said Reps would oppose EVERYTHING? Dems have power. They don’t have to cower like abused dogs & make things easy for trump. Come on. Think.

Democrats can’t do much when they’re largely not in power and the structures that would back them up aren’t in their control either.
Obviously if you've got a R rep or senator you should be pushing back at them, too: they need to hear from constituents and be hounded in the press.
