I read the newsletters and posts regularly, and feel compelled to ask: OK, so what do I do? Repeatedly reading that Legacy media, the billionaires, the Republicans, various corporate bosses etc. are bowing down and destroying democracy doesn't help me learn what to do about correcting the situation
That’s the takeaway you got from the CR debacle? I’m a government budget analyst and my takeaway is our institutions will fall and Republicans are happy to support that. An unqualified, incompetent, unelected non-government employee was still able to nearly derail everything!
We've been here before. We almost lost the Union in 1865 and fought the enemy again in 1945. 2025 will be the same fight. And again we'll win and thrive in 2025.
It is because we are on our own and so alone that it feels that saving democracy is a dire and near impossible task. I know of people who threw away their vote in 2024 , just like in 2016, for “principle” and they are liberals. If we can’t convince them, how can we EVER convince a MAGA? Just sayin
I know someone who didn't vote as a non-binary person (because of Gaza) and is now afraid of how they'll be treated by MAGA. It's difficult for me to fight for them if they won't fight for themselves by doing the simplest of things - voting.
I know, it’s weird and it drives me crazy. But we have to. You’re not alone - we’re here, you’re here, and we are going to destroy this regime. But it’s a marathon and not a sprint. Check out https://indivisible.org if interested
We are on our own. There are so many different things and ideas we need to do to band together it is overwhelming. We can do things individually, for example: Cancelling Amazon, FB, X, etc. and/or write letters to them. Research owners of where we spend our money. Writing to our elected officials.
Trump cannot be sworn in until the Congress and Senate votes on his insurrectionist. He has been declared by three judges to be an insurrectionist. Anyone swearing him in is aiding an insurrectionist. Trump is a violation of the Constitution 14th Amendment Section 3. For just participating.
My fellow grad students and I got together and signed a formal statement for our department. As a German Department, we feel a special obligation to stand strong against this authoritarianism. If….
Anyone following Democracy Docket is part of a university, and wants to go on the record regarding how they plan to conduct themselves know that we support you. It might start to feel a little lonely, but take heart - there are others who support you.
