"Courts’ power of contempt — the inherent power to compel compliance with orders and punish actions that obstruct the administration of justice — is ultimately backstopped by their ability to jail people who defy their orders."

This is incredibly interesting, & it settles me down. I find myself getting very nervous with Trump's manifestation of insanity. At least if the Marshall's don't cooperate with the judgment, there's a backup plan. He will try everything, & it's up to the courts to stop him. Congress is no help.
I wish we had the "sheriffs" to enforce the laws & the courts' decisions; I would have a glimmer of hope for our democracy if we did. Sadly, I think our law-based society is crumbling.
We haven’t had a law based society in a long time. Maybe ever. The rich have always gotten away with murder while the poor have never gotten a fair shot. If we had a law-based society Trump would be in jail right now and a lot of people on death row wouldn’t be.
I watched you and George Conway this morning and you answered some of the questions I had as I worked as a paralegal for 40+ years. I also subscribed to Democracy Docket on YouTube. We are definitely in a quandary at this time but possibly we’ll get through it. Many thanks to you Mark!
Provided the courts have the political will to do so. But have they? Trump should be in prison right now if the courts - specifically, judges - had the civic courage to carry out the law. They didn't. They caved. All to their eternal shame.
The courts are not going to save us, and keeping up the charade that they will actively hurts the development of a legitimate opposition to this tyranny.
that would be funny if they all decided hey let’s arrest everyone involved in this trump admin stuff because there is nothing saying they can’t do that even if what he did was an official act because it was never clarified
That said, having a US Marshals Service that does its job to enforce court orders (and protect judges' safety) is definitely a plus, and better than not having it.

I read it aloud twice. Still not sure if its gist.
I'm educated. I read a lot . . .
