Just listened and was particularly intrigued by what you read about civil defense initiatives in France.

This is needed in Canada.

I'm a former reservist, did Weekend QL2 in the winter on 94-95 at a time few Canadians were concerned with our military. That has changed, which is encouraging. 1/

The foundations of our national defense doctrine are being shaken and are in need of a thorough re-think.
The Arctic, transatlantic links, East and West coasts and, yes, the southern border, are areas of threat and vulnerability that need to be addressed. 2/

The Regular and Reserve forces as well as the Supplementary Reserve (the latter is rarely discussed if at all known by many of our fellow citizens), are clearly in need of strengthening and there is at least some recognition of this across the board 3/

But it is a cultural shift that is most needed in Canada - a recognition that real threats to our sovereignty and freedom exist and that we can no longer look at our military with indifference. We are in an era that will require societal involvement in national defense. 4/

Specifically this means each citizen needs to ask what they can contribute within current structures/organizations as well as consider what household preparation for an emergency looks like. Anything government can do to encourage this mindset is helpful 5/

I'm a big fan of Good Talk so I find it fun to watch Bruce in his new role as a Carney supporter. I remember getting frustrated when he'd give credit to Poilievre for various policies or communications. Bruce is well intentioned and honest; glad he's on Carney's side.
