Sen. Mike Rounds provides empty reassurances to parents who are worried that funding for education for special needs kids will be gutted after Republicans do away with the Department of Education: "Nobody wants to take away funding for special ed."

I knew Mike Rounds back when he was Govenor of SD, and I lived in Pierre, SD (state capital). It's a small town with 14,000 people.

He's not actually stupid enough to believe that programs for vulnerable kids won't get cut. It's willfull disregard for children!

What actually happens without federal rules and standards is more discrimination. Special education doesn’t need more discrimination it needs more funding. Obviously local areas didn’t do it and that’s why it was built into federal policy in the first place. EVERY child opportunity.

Always understand why a fence was up before you take it down. Why were special needa funds often federalized? Because, there are many people at the state level who don't value special needs and special education programs. If given the chance, they will spend those dollars somewhere else.

All of education will go to hell, especially for children whose parents can't make-up the difference between the proposed voucher programs & the costs of Christian Nationalist private schools of right wing indoctrination, which will be the only option after all the public schools are shut down.

Meanwhile, the kids who have no schools to go to & will go uneducated will be put to use working, as MAGA states continue to drop the minimum age of employment. It's not that Project 2025 doesn't know the impact of deporting a huge chunk of the work force. They have a plan for breeding new workers.

I don’t know how other states handled their TANF block grants, but Mississippi bought things like college made volleyball courts and payments to Brett Favre, and paid very little to needy families.

My 9yr old grandson is autistic. The thought of dismantling the Dept of Education scares me for him and everyone else with special needs. I DESPISE Project 2025 and EVERYONE involved in it!! Without the proper funding, these kids will suffer.

The call for block granting almost everything in the Dept. of Ed was inevitable. The key to the GOP strategy is to find the funding formula that moves money disproportionately into Red states and to minimize requirements, set-asides, and accountability.

The local level entities bearing expense will mostly be blue counties. The outstate has a higher rate of disabled childern (due to poor maternal care) & then move to or send their kids to the blue counties (for better services). Then their outstate prior neighbors complain about blue cty getting $s

TX was putting a cap on how much could be spent on Special Ed services until they were called out. They were way underfunding services for those in need. Many children never received the special help they needed.
