Yes! Think of the cloture "no" vote as a form of civil disobedience (we don't have power but we refuse to acquiesce). It only works if the movement grows. More people need to feel comfortable and understand the risks of peaceful protest. Courts are important but people are the source of power.

I do this! I try to keep my tone light -- not angry, but just amused "oh goodness, no one actually believes this stuff do they? Put on something that hasn't been sued repeatedly for lying."

Trump is going to declare martial law. Another reason, among many, to start protesting right now. Force that issue before he accrues any more power for himself. Force it now. Force him to do what he had planned to wait 2 years to do. Exposed the grift and the tyranny with a vengeance.

What are some differences we might look for as the US slides more deeply into Authoritarianism? Would the police crack down on protests more quickly? There's a usual progression (under a democracy). But there will be differences. Khalil's ICE disappearing video highlights an aspect of this.

During the campaign last summer I half joked that if Trump won there was a non-zero chance I would be machine gunned by the Texas National Guard during a peaceful protest in a blue city. The odds have increased.
