Incubation period is 2-4 days & death can occur in less than a week.
Claims from raw food companies that their “methods” inactivate flu virus are FALSE.
Heating: pasteurization or cooking — are the methods to inactivate H5N1.

Separate from H5N1 risks, it can be contaminated with a myriad of other disease-causing pathogens.
Raw pet foods are frequently nutrient-deficient, and raw food companies do not have appropriate quality control.

Would it ultimately be better to put in the work of cooking appropriate human grade food for them or would it be prohibitively difficult/expensive to get the right nutrient balance 🤔
Overall I think it's okay if you get the right kinds. My childhood cat ate nothing but Purina cat chow and hated wet food and lived to be 24.
100% talk to a vet tho.
There is real science that goes into pet nutrition. There is also regulation surrounding it.
That's what the AAFCO Standard is.
Products that don't meet the standard for a nutritionally complete diet, verified by AAFCO, can't print it on their label.
Cats need a host of vitamins and minerals we don't eat, for example.
That's why making diets at home for cats doesn't involve getting chicken from the grocery store.
It involves sourcing things like rabbit and a variety of supplements. It's expensive and unnecessary because all of that work is already done.
And wild animals die prematurely due to pathogens.
Animals are dying because of wellness disinformation.
Stop listening to people who don’t know what they’re talking about.

Allowing pet cats to be outside about halves their life expectancy: infections, illness, injury.
Humans created pet cats—and humans behaviors have led to their overpopulation, including not spaying & neutering them.
70% of the world population of "domestic" cats are feral and by all accounts I can find, interbreed freely with the actually-domestic population, so hunting skill is still evolutionarily selected for.
It's a bad time for birds.
Flu virus is not very stable on surfaces (much less so than norovirus) but can persist for a time. You can also disinfect bottoms of shoes after being outdoors.
