All NWS services: data, forecasts, radar, satellite, IT infrastructure, costs each American taxpayer $4/yr. Less than a latte. And each person gets back 73 x $4 = $292 a year in value for that service.

I think that’s a pretty good deal.

Ok, not one of my better moments - all disaster aid should be nonpartisan, no question ( now that i am calmer). But current admin and lackeys are NOT playing by those norms and their voters need help realizing what natural consequences will follow: if no forecast, then no time to prepare.

That's ok - I think everyone understands that these are frustrating times.

It's hard to fight against a foe that throws norms out the window. And I'm not one to say we should always "keep the high road." But we can't lose our core moral and ethical framework while dive into the mud.

No, that's not how our country should function. If individuals who believe in limited government opt to decline relief funds or support then fine. But every America deserves the same treatment under the law in all contexts.

No, no it is not how our country *should* function. It is, however, exactly the approach rump took in CA for the wildfires in LA as opposed to Biden's response to Helene. I was trying to point out the hypocrisy in their stances, depending on who wants the aid. In future i will moderate my sarcasm 😑

I think we are actually on the same side here: we both believe in the value of NOAA/NWS, and worry it will be dismantled and people will die. (I did read Michael Lewis's Fifth Risk). Yes, disaster aid should be nonpartisan; i over-reacted on that one. But rump *did* ask CA to change laws to get aid.
