It has the pacing I liked from the Nevernight series without the intolerable Grimdark BS. Also the protagonist is bad at stuff occasionally. And the magic system isn't overly complex to hop into but complex enough I want to know more.
OHHHH SOUNDS INTERESRTING....seeing u read library books inspires me to try and get back into reading as a hobby 😩 all else i do with my time is stare at a screen 🙆
My local library has been an incredible way to get back into reading. I started with leveraging Libby + free audiobook rentals while I did chores. Then added books I wanted to read to my hold list. Even on bad anxiety days, I can usually walk into the library and grab my holds ❤️
50 pages in but guy who was part of an overthrown (royal?) family gets adopted as an orphan by Big Bad Guy (maybe) to go do secret academy. If he can be The Very Best™️- then he doesn't opt into a magic system sapping his lifeforce over time. If anyone figures out who he is tho - he dies.
