Dragon Age is a good old school video game-ass video game and I love it for that. Build a fun team, run around, do missions, no live service nonsense, just a good time with no bs.

it took me 120 hours to completely explore it and do all optional and side content. there's new banter to hear any time you pop in the lighthouse.
quests are linear and still give you the opportunity to explore while doing it, esp areas that open only for that. it's not as linear as some people say.
And it nearly wasn't! The reason it took 10 years was because they nearly made it a destiny like before scrapping it halfway through. I'm just happy with what we got. It could've been so much worse.
Spitting facts here. Game is great, respects your time and doesn't try to drag more hours out of you than it needs. I don't hate Live Service games at all, but gaming will always need titles like Dragon Age Veilguard.
I'm 25 hours into my second playthrough. I thought I was going to put it down for a while when I finished the game the first time, but I'm still enjoying it.
I really hope there'll be no DLC. The simplicity of finishing without wondering the what-ifs is perfect. Can't wait until I get back home from my business trip in the end of January to play.
I finished it this week. I had such a fun time (most of the time) fighting and getting to know all the companions. I finished all quests, but I missed some collectibles. I guess I'll have to play it again! While the writing could have been better, it was still a good game!
Doesn't capture me the way the other DAs have. Characters are bland--too perky, polite, agreeable, so freaking EARNEST. Aside from sex and occasional curses, I feel like I'm part of a Disney movie. Even so, am enjoying exploring, creating, and fighting. Never thought I'd miss Vivienne tho.
And I'm sure this is an unpopular opinion, but I absolutely adore the companions in Veilguard and their refreshing maturity. It's just a blast to play.
Game is great. No excuse for the nonsense surrounding it. The gameplay is a blast, it looks fantastic, and runs great. If I were to note a negative it would be that it doesnt quite offer some some of the more interesting dialogue/choices of some of the other DA games. But its easily the most fun.
Despite Origins being a pain to look at (at least to me; I got headaches) it was one of those games you could play without fear of- as Morrigan would put it- "barbarians swooping down upon you." 😎
It’s not perfect, and the writing can be kind of iffy sometimes. I’m not talking about “woke shit”, just the dialogue in general. The story is OK and the combat is really good though. It’s unfortunate that it’s getting compared to BG3, it’s not as good but it’s still worth playing.
Ahright. Ok. Aye. I hear you. And I spent a good deal with it. But, and there's a but, you still have to do things. You don't control your destiny, there's a path you need to follow. So, I enjoyed it but will always return to Skyrim (or Oblivion) where every step is your choice. Even not taking any.
100% it’s probably one of the best RPGs I’ve enjoyed since Witcher 3. The Lighthouse has a real Divinity Original Sin feel to it. The sheer size is great but not overwhelming.
Y'know what else....
There was no paid early access, no battle pass, no season pass, no DLC beyond a delux edition, no expansions coming...just a complete product. Beautiful turn of events from EA and long may it continue with single player experiences.
The only thing I would say to improve it is that it should enable limited grinding... That fight against Loghain's lieutenant was awesome, but I had to absolutely cheese it the 1 in god-knows how many attempts that I beat it.
One of the best franchises for sure. Right up there with mass effect and elder scrolls. Inquisition was my favorite one so far, hopefully I'll get to play veilguard someday but right now I'm too poor lol
DA Origins is an all time fave. Hated the direction they went with DA2 and as a result didn't play Inquisition and soured on Bioware. But you know what: I'm loving Veilguard. It's not Dragon Age Origins and that's okay.
💯 - It’s my first DA game and 19 hours in I’m having a blast. Looks and plays great cranked up on my 4090, but also is really good on the Ally X. Really scratching an itch for me.
I have issues with freezing and stuttering on my Ally X. I’ve tried the anti-stutter mod and fiddled with settings but still have issues. Do you have any recommendations?
(Runs like an absolute dream on my main gaming PC, mind.)
genuinely do not understand how people do not feel insulted and talked down to by every character talking to you like they're a preschool teacher and you're a toddler struggling with Sharing and Friendship and extreme short term memory deficiencies.
I've played 20ish hrs so far and love it, but having played ME lately, I think what some people are missing is the hard ass responses where you basically tell people to F off... it's a fair opinion, but I think they went with a more friendly vibe with the budget they had.
It is definitely a beautiful game and really fun! It just really really sucks that it doesn’t feel like a “Dragon Age” game. I miss David Gaider & Mary Kirby
Definitely in my top 10 this year. Not perfect but combat is addictively good, very fun level design, lots of great character and story moments. Had a great time!
for all of the criticisms i've seen thrown at its art style, i really, really think the game deserves its flowers for some of its visuals. the environmental lighting looks fantastic in a lot of scenes, and the hair? don't get me started
I'll admit I'm still a fan of a more realistic visual style, but I grew to really like the way it looks. Environments are just gorgeous, and a lot of the characters look so good (Harding, Emmrich, Neve, Rook, Solas), and yeah the HAIR...peak video game hair 😍
I think it's looks terrific! I'm not that far into it, but what I've seen so far is really great. The hair technology is out of this world, especially!
I'm not sure if Veilguard will get it, but the earlier DA games were supported by vorpX so you could play them in VR. The Matrix pan looks so cool in 3D.
I love the game but the writing is terrible and “progressive racist”. Meaning it trades in tropes, Lucanis is “Latin/Spanish hothead passion”, Taash is “African American coded lunkhead”, Davrin is “African American coded hothead”, Neve is “multiethnic slinky sensual”, Bellara is “Asian neurospicy”
I’ve been running it for 40 hours and loving it without a single bug, crash, slowdown or even a mission issue. It’s so impressive given how bad recent games have launched.
Yes! I also love that you can import your saves to the sequels and have the choices you made also impact your experience. I would love to see games with sequels take that feature into account.
I don't understand the hate over ONE character being non-Binary. Especially considering the series has been "wOkE" from day one.
The game is fantastic.
🤘
There are certain some room for criticism, that being said, I went in without reading reviews or spoilers and doing a complete run through and I’m extremely happy with it so far.
Not really. I've retained pretty much zero pertinent information from any previous entries (since it's been, like, a decade since I played them), and I'm having no trouble following The Veilguard.
every game in the series is an extreme to the point of whiplash vibe shift from the last. Origins is a fantastic game but if you went from that to this it would feel like IDK watching There Will Be Blood followed by an episode of MLP: Friendship Is Magic
I don't know how to feel about the combat in Veilguard compared to Origins (my fav) from what I've seen but I'll definitely give Veilguard a chance. Praying to be positively surprised
The finale was so intense. I cried for like 10 minutes. What a ride. Veilguard is full of deep lore. I've been with it since Origins and to see so many callbacks and connections to the previous titles was awesome. Was absolutely worth the wait for me.
The whole “build a team of broken people and make sure you fix them enough so they can save the world” gives me Mass Effect 2 vibes, and I am all about those vibes.
Exactly! I'm having an absolute blast with it. As a big DA fan, it's hitting all the right notes for me. Plus the game is gorgeous, especially the environments. I've taken so many photos... 😅
Big fan of the environments as well. Been waiting since DA:O to see places like Tevinter and Weisshaupt, and they don’t disappoint. Arlathan is also dope as hell.
And the writing that ppl are saying is "bad" is in truth just fine.
Well, there's no banger lines like the "I have seen the throne of gods" line from DA Inquisition or "Man so in love with greed he has forgotten himself and found only appetites" from RDR2 but the writing in DAV is still decent
I think people have gotten to the point where they want everything new to one up whatever they already like. So much so that they can't enjoy something that's simply very good if it isn't one of their all time favorites. The emphasis on things being "objectively" good or bad has ruined modern art.
I've seen ppl often compare this to BG3 meant that ppl were coming into this with a false expectation that it would be like BG3.
Where BG3 was almost like an immersive sim, DAV was more of the classic Bioware style of linear quest design. Both are different but good in their own right.
Yep! BG3 is very in depth, the type of thing you're supposed to get lost in for months. DAV is more like a new season of a TV show that you binge and move on from. It feels very DA2+Mass Effect and I'm LOVING it. The game is really great if you don't expect it to be something that it isn't.
It could be one of the greatest, there is s lot of untapped potential, but I am beyond happy Bioware resigned from the OG idea of live service mmorpg, I am having great time in the Veilguard!
I'm absolutely loving Dragon Age Veilguard for the reasons you mention. The combat is so satisfying. No shop disguised as a game. I heard that it was originally going to be a live service, but they ditched all that. Great move, and for me it's easily GotY. @bioware.bsky.social
IIRC, you can ignore building most things in Fallout 4. I ignored all of the little towns I was supposed to build up, feed and protect throughout the game and still made it to the end.
Harding, Emmrich and Davrin are incredibly well-written and likable. The rest feel mediocre or straight annoying to me but I guess it’s normal to pick favorites

(Claudia Black played her perfectly, IMO.)

That game made what could have been a really boring point in life thoroughly enjoyable.

I don't have all the companions yet but I like them.
I need to protect them at all costs.
Unfortunately the first act prevents it from being God tier even though the final act IS God tier
The game is fantastic.
🤘
It did not, so I guess I gave live service a boost for nothing. :(
You might be on to something.

Cannot thank you enough for reminding me that i should play new vegas.
