Years of lazy acceptance of minimal defence spending brought us here. We relied on the US to defend our land - and they encouraged that, in exchange for buying their weapons. We need to build our own arms industry and spend MUCH more on defence. Poland knows this and everyone must follow.

Ultimately, people like me will defend Europe. The maligned youth, the wasters, the kid's of today. Despite being told for years by our grandparents that we would never match up to the generations that fought WW2. We have to, because we all have no choice.

A few things to keep in mind when comparing military expenditures as a share of GDP:

Conscription armies are more cost-effective than professional armies. This is how Finland has amassed a reserve of 870,000 troops.

Military spending says nothing about the preparedness of civil society.
