I don't understand when people get upset that someone has never played a specific game before. That just means they get to experience it for the FIRST time and I am insanely jealous of them.

Its never a legit upset for me. Moreso a surprise with how certain people are.
Like one of my friends who's a massive final fantasy fan and has played most games I the series has never played 7 to any capacity.
Ha, I'm actually guilty of this; the classic VII, in any event. Didn't have the system to play it, that was my excuse. By the time I had the means to play it, I kinda already knew the entire plot and twists and everything about the game through osmosis, so I didn't feel the need to. Did play remake.
That is fair, but id still argue getting to experience the game yourself is just as important. Afterall there's still alot to 7 to love, like the material system and all the neat secrets
i get so excited when someone says they’ve never played Return of the Obra Dinn or Ghost Trick that i have to calm myself down before trying to sell them on the game while explaining nothing about it
Usually with me, it's less so that I'm upset and am just acting like I'm upset(i do this a lot for comedic reasons, my friends think it's funny). Really I'm Moreso surprised. Yeah they won't know what I'm talking about(sad) but also I have more to rant about :)
Sometimes fans of a series can be very hardcore about the series they like, in the other person's perspective it can seem toxic if context is not given. Sometimes people compare passion with toxicity but it all depends on the context.
I've never played a Metal Gear Solid game, but I won't deny that it's an interesting franchise. It just never caught my attention, but maybe in time my curiosity will get the better of me and I'll play it.
Same, but for all media. I wouldnt say ppl get upset, but Ive had so many encounters where their like "wth you havent seen [insert pop culture movie/game etc]? What have you been doing with your life?" and its kinda annoying, Id appreciate not being made to feel like I dont belong even more.
I’d pay so much to experience LAIKA: Aged Through Blood again for the first time, that was an experience that just came round at the right time in my life.
Reminds me of my old days in the 2016-2017 Undertale Fandom. Most people were nice, but there were some really rotten people out there who would go on a crusade as soon as they heard someone admit they hadn't played the game.
Like bro did YOU even play the game? The one about being kind to others??
I recently learned a friend is reading LotR for the first time. My reaction wasn’t to be incredulous and ridicule him, but to say, “man, I wish I could experience that for the first time again. Enjoy!”
I really don’t get the outrage that someone hasn’t experienced everything in existence already.
"Wha!? You've never played (a game that I've never heard of before yet has been around for 15+ years)!? Do you live under a rock!?"
There have been many times where I could shout "YOU'VE NEVER PLAYED NASCAR THUNDER '04 BEFORE!?" but realize that I didn't have a PS2 or Xbox growing up either.
I was so excited when my darling played her first Zelda game in my presence. Now we’re both hunting Koroks in TOTK and I couldn’t have a better guide bc I get lost all the time 🤣🩵
Yeah, I've never played a silent Hill game cause I've never had the capacity to with old consoles, and now I don't have the capacity cause I'm too broke to afford the remake
Same. On a related note, I've still not seen the RHPS and people get on me all the time about that. But I get to eventually see it in all its glory when I'm ready! What's better than that?
Same with books, music, films etc. Hearing Wish You Were Here for the first time… now that’s a special experience. If I ridicule someone for not hearing it, I’m doing them, me and the band a disservice, because I’m more likely to put that person off.
I havent played most Nintendo games due to not being able to afford most of the consoles, I've been on the Xbox exclusively because it's what my parents got me
I would love to play the metal gear series, ace attorney, hollow knight, persona 3, breath of the wild, and genuinely so many other games again for the first time and I can half experience them again like that when I introduce my friends to series I love
Similarly with movies!! I love showing my friends movies that I LOVE but that they've never seen.
Though..I guess I'll admit I was disappointed with a friend who proudly proclaimed she had never seen the LoTR trilogy and then also wouldn't watch them with me in a "determined never to see them" way.
Right? I always get very excited when my friends say they haven't played a game I think they'd like. Usually that means I get the chance to be with them when they play it for the first time, which is a fantastic opportunity.
God Psychonauts 2, as much as I'd like to experience it for the first time again it's fun to see the little things and get a better appreciation of how they set up and paid off so much that was established in both games.
I imagine most of it is a shocked reaction. Like, they grew up playing it so it's surprising to some people that others havent tried it. Only time I see someone getting upset is if they don't give it a try but people need to understand some people just don't like certain genres.
People are always shocked I haven't seen their favorite movies. Gaming is what I would rather spend my time on, so I don't have the time for all of that. Especially long running TV series'
as someone frequently on the other side of this I have really bad anxiety about choosing what games to play because of people being weird because I haven't played certain things
Weird reoccurring thing on the internet is that people will get irrationally upset when you either haven't heard of a piece of media before or have gotten a few basic things about that media wrong.
Instead of simply correcting the mistake, they'd get mad and throw insults at them which is odd.
Some gamers feel like the games they've played are such a big deal that the idea of someone NOT playing it means *insert bad quality about the person* and it makes them inclined to think the person in question is either going to hate it (and thus siege mode) or they hopping on a bandwagon.
For me, and I’ve never fully understood why, but I’m afraid to try new things because I’m scared I’ll like them. It’s weird and makes no sense at all, but it’s kept me from experiencing so many things.
I've legitimately been called an idiot among other insults for not having played half the souls games because, and I quote, "you didn't play to the good bit of the series yet"
If the games themselves didn't put me off, the fans certainly have. Like, jeez, reaching much?
I don’t get upset persay it’s more like shock or “whoa really? Well you should DEFINITELY play the game” cuz if I ask “have you played x game?” And they say no then I’m gonna start hyping UP that game to get them to play it fr
I am envious of those who get to experience my favorite games for the first time, I wish I could go back and rediscover the magic or the jump scares, or the puzzles
The more specific thing I have a lot is: "how did we get this far in our friendship before you told me you've never experienced [blank]" but yes, same deal, now I get to show you the thing and experience it fresh through your eyes
It also means I get to sit next to them and be like "so what did you think it's great right I know ALSO get that thing it's important no I won't tell you why it's a surprise lol" and just be enthusiastically obnoxious lmao.
What you gotta understand is that about half of all my humor is referencing old games and movies, so finding out someone's been missing out on some of my jokes is mildly frustrating, especially if it's something popular like LotR or Halo.
ah, to play pokémon colosseum for the first time again… 😭 what i would not give to be able to experience that, or the FFXIV expansion “Shadowbringers.” i will forever be chasing those highs
yeah, some people belives their bubble is the bubble for everyone. Probably people like this lack empathy. i Really want to forget the KH series to play like first time again :'(
Tbf, there are a few games that I pity someone starting to play, most recently Space Engineers; it has one of the sharpest learning curves of all of the games I continue to play.
if things to wipe your memory existed i would use them exclusively to wipe my memory of every show and game i like so i can experience them all again for the very first time. all of them.
A friend of mine is soon gonna be playing Final Fantasy VI for the first time, and they know *nothing* about the game, and I am excited beyond all reason!
same tbh, my first reaction whenever i hear someone hasn't played a specific game i like is just
"if you ever get to it keep me updated"
i just love seeing people experience stuff for the first time, its awesome
Exactly. Games cost a lot of money to buy & there's only so much time. Loads of games I played late, loads of big ones left for me to do. I think Horizon Forbidden West & Outlaws might be the only games I've got stuck in to on or near release in the last decade. And the Horizon remaster.
If I am upset that's because I am in a "I want to talk about the spoiler parts of the game with you right nooooowww" mood, and it's a pretend upset anyway
Dude real. I tuned in to a Starbound stream last week and the guy had never played it before. I was more upset that I wasn't there for the start of the stream
I wouldn't care about that, I guess i'd feel slightly sorry that they couldn't enjoy games that haven't aged well, at the time the game came out. But that's just life, man.
Definitely a mood. There's plenty of games I'd love to be able to experience for the first time again. Psyconauts 2 comes to mind. Such an impactful experience.
I will bother friends of mine to stream on discord or something just so I can hang out while they play any of my favorites. I love that little bit of vicarious first-time-again.
They haven't played my favourite game yet so they need to play it NOW THEY NEED TO PLAY IT RIGHT FUCKING NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW ENJOY MEDIA RIGHT NOW MY FAVOURITE MEDIA NOW
I feel the same about Outer Wilds and Disco Elysium. The first playthrough of any game is a good experience and for those, it's always the most enlightening.
So many memories from Majoras Mask. I honestly share the sentiment, funnily enough as a kid I never was brave enough to venture into the swamp area, I only ever completed the game as a young adult.
What a mood, especially MM. 20 years ago I was too scared to play it and then in my teens I finally got to experience it proper. What it would be like if I played it now tho...
That’s part of why I love remasters so much. Aside from me buying my favorite games that get remastered again, I get excited for new people to experience the games too!
That, and I feel like remasters can help extend a game’s longevity, while still satisfying what the companies want: money. 😅
I like to introduce people to games and such, but experience has taught me that I don't pressure them too much as it's possible to oversell or make people sick of it before enjoying it themselves organically.
It’s also like. Sorry I didn’t have a ps3 growing up so I couldn’t play uncharted or the last of us when they came out and I’m broke now so I can’t buy the remasters.
you who this message calls to. You have not played klonoa. I am not upset. I will wait eagerly but patiently until the universe may let me wait no more
I don't get upset when someone hasn't played a game I like. I get excited by the chance of getting them to experience it. Doesn't always happen. But always happy when they at least try it. If they love it, it's even better.
I think more of the frustration comes from the fact it inhibits the other party from fully talking about it out of politeness. The other end is fearing they won't ever play a game you like.
It's just something people have to admit they have no control over.

however this is no reason to get upset
Because now i get to show someone else The Thing and i get to enjoy it a SECOND TIME through this new person being exposed to it!!
Happy Halloween!
My own is we all have taste and you cannot obviously influence me with yours
Like bro did YOU even play the game? The one about being kind to others??

What a weird thing to get bent out of shape about. x]
Genuinely so excited for them and can't wait to hear all their thoughts on it!
Instead of simply correcting the mistake, they'd get mad and throw insults at them which is odd.
I know every game isn't for everyone.
I'm like this when I mention Lumines. It's a puzzle game by Enhance Games, formally Q Entertainment.🥃
If the games themselves didn't put me off, the fans certainly have. Like, jeez, reaching much?
Let them bumble and discover and have fun doing it. Just like they got the chance to do.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind but for video games and other media
It's a good kind of surprise, though, because I get to see their reaction to Portal or Baldur's Gate 2 or Final Fantasy 6 or Terraria or…
I agree with you
like goddamn you must be very insufferable if you don't like that your favourite musician is finally getting that bread
"if you ever get to it keep me updated"
i just love seeing people experience stuff for the first time, its awesome
Though when it comes to reading there is so much I wish I could read for the first time again.
but yeah it's actually half-decent and could've been a lot worse
*Prepares for tomatoes to be thrown at me*
this is coming from someone who never owned N64 so yeah take this with a ton of sodium
also, I really prefer TP Zelda with that possesed look, very nice in my opinion
And the *other* that bit!
That, and I feel like remasters can help extend a game’s longevity, while still satisfying what the companies want: money. 😅
it's a fairly short game but it does so much so good in the time it has and it has the most memorable last entire hour of any game I've ever played
It's just something people have to admit they have no control over.
