UGH.
THERE. IS. NO. SYSTEMIC. DISCRIMINATION. AGAINST. WHITE. PEOPLE. IN THE USA.
There ARE real systemic obstacles to/against poor people, including pure white people.
This is just going to have to go back to court to have the courts interpret their own ruling. Which college will take this on?
My post was meant to say POOR white people, not PURE white ppl. WTF.
You may be right. I hope not. Institutions that can afford to (literally & figuratively) have to step into these fights
The other thing that struck me about the letter (I encourage folks to read the whole thing) is they seem to think DEI is specially about race. It makes one wonder whether other DEI activities would still be “allowed” under this framework bc they’re too stupid to realize what DEI means?
Having engaged with some conservatives on Threads, I learned that they have no idea what DEI means other than the right wing media's distortion talking points.
What does this mean? The withholding scholarships etc I get but is it also that Black and Latino kids won’t be allowed to take part in graduation ceremonies?
The government is not withholding scholarships for anyone (I don’t think they have college scholarships?). They’re saying institutions can’t have scholarships for specific groups, same as graduation ceremonies
Dept of Ed canceled discretionary grants (Teacher Quality Partnership and SEED). These grants provide scholarships and stipends for student teachers (some of which are college scholarships). And this 😡 website is detailing "roadmap to equality" https://will-law.org/roadmaptoequality/
Thank you for that! I didn’t k it about these discretionary grants. I think this is separate from that letter, tho, and people are getting confused thinking that letter is canceling scholarships from the government when they’re restricting what schools themselves can do
I wasn’t confused about who was being made to without the scholarships. I was shocked by the graduation part. Graduation is in 3-4 months. Is it seriously meant to be an all-white affair?
