I forget where I read that what's now Oakland used to be the largest coastal oak forest in the U.S., but it made me kind of sad. Glad Oakland is making progress on reforesting.
We have the largest urban canopy in the Bay, but also one of the most inequitable. The stark differences between places like Montclair and Rockridge versus East and West Oakland speak to the very racially charged lack of planting. I know you know this also contributes to the urban heat map.
So happy but also so sad the Trump Admin will not likely support us like the Biden admin did. I was really proud to help (in a small role) with the Bloomberg grant to support this work too. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Any “positive news” about Oakland must come wrapped in doom & gloom. That’s how the SF media operates. Oakland has to always be depicted as less than SF. They compared Oak to SF in regards to money but forgot to mention which city has the bigger tree canopy.
