Politicians invested heavily in the NIH and other basic research in the 60s and 70s, and we have benefited from their foresight ever since, just as future generations will bear the consequences of the decisions we make today.

What infuriates me is that almost every drug developed in the 21st century US received funding from the NIH and yet the companies file patent for the drug after it's developed. Their excuse? They say it's the cost of R&D.Bastards already received public funding for research and they still want more!
