Between all the "Switch games are $90" and "All Switch physical games don't have the game in the card!!" misinfo going around, I bet Nintendo is regretting not just upfront stating these things in the Direct lol

You’re right, the tariffs may have little to do with releasing a statement beyond a general uncertainty, but Nintendo Japan has always been notoriously slow to react to things.
The last major thing I can remember was them apologizing for the launch of the 3DS and that took months.
The world is still affected by it immediately because the US was entwined in everything. Going forward, no country will ever trust any country like this again.
What I want to know is where this misinformation even came from. One person in the replies implied that it was just misinterpreting the price conversion, but even taking the actual conversion into account only makes the pricing even worse.
Fr idk where the fuck people are getting the idea that games are $90 from. To me it sounds like someone heard something about a regional price and misinterpreted it lol
I'm guessing people saw the way other regions are charging more for physical games than digital (a practice which is still worthy of derision, of course) and the announced $80 price for Mario Kart, then made a somewhat sensible assumption, but did not change their thinking when new information hit
I'm pretty sure the reason why is because of the multiple languages. allegedly, in the domestic region of japan, there's a model of switch 2 that's about $100 usd less due to it having only one language.
Absolutely. Nobody would purposely let this happen.
The problem is Nintendo is incredibly slow to react to things like this. I said somewhere else here that they should have had someone out to clarify everything later Wednesday or first thing Thursday.
exactly, and it's just like what you suggested. some people may have seen that the game is 80€ digitally and 90€ physically, and then seen that the game is $80, and they made some connections that seemed rational at the time, but failed to see information which contradicted their line of thinking
Physical discounts go crazy sometimes lol I love it, I worked in an electronics store and after a while they really really want to get rid of them to get more shelf space
Same, hope my local gamestores keep them in stock though, physical copies tend to get some nice discounts after a while, like I just bought xenoblade chronicles 3 last week for €30, so hope the same happens for switch two games
All I can say is that people should have been more aware that this was going to happen with what's happening with the OompaLoompa. I really don't think this is a Nintendo greed thing.
Oh sorry. Didn't know you worked at Nintendo and have 100 percent proof of that information.
Considering this is the first time ever a Nintendo Console has cost differently in other countries, I think we have all the proof we need to show that they're anticipating it
Lol, Nintendo doesn't give a shit about the whining, cuz ultimately that's what it is. People yelling at a company for having to do what companies do given economic conditions, while not giving a second thought to the conditions that led to it, cuz real economics is way harder than animal crossing
it's been so frustrating watching people get mad about a thing when the first sentence on the website they're talking about says a thing directly contradicting what they were told
Also prolly doesn't help they relisted Switch 1 games for 80 bucks. I understand pricing structure, but why is BOTW and other years old past gen games still being sold at 60 in 2025? Especially when you can easily get the game used on eBay for 30-40 bucks.
People who haven't owned a Nintendo in over a decade having strong opinions on how Nintendo is hurting "us" fans.
Can we put them in a human sized sling shot yet?
Switch 2 has a surprising amount of backwards compatibility with the controllers&games for a company trying to rob me blind.
"People who couldn't afford the previous cost are now out further from it and are upset because they can't afford what others can shouldn't have any right to be mad." Different wording same meaning. Stop normalizing greed.
The gamers I was inferring to were in gaming forums and admit to affording the latest PlayStations and/or Xboxes, are not fans of Nintendo and still dump on Nintendo products and fans.
Yep, it shows you just didn't/ don't think about those without the money to have their opinion validated. Take situational context into account. My main point is that games haven't jumped in price because they monetized everything WITHIN them, so this added step is just more greed at play.
Yep, it shows I didn't consider every individual person who would come in blasting holding be accountable for every single exception that needed to fit in the character limitations of a social media post.
Direct your jagged anger at something else. Stranger should not have to be your punching bag.
It’s weird the stuff they didn’t mention.
Like did anyone know the charging joycon grip has the extra buttons at the back like the pro controller? Cause I only found out on the specs page
Even at $80 MSRP I'm still paying $90 after taxes. The "normal" games like DK get bumped to 80 anyway. lol and lmao love getting priced out of this. Like all these prices are still bad and the digi cards still seem to suck! A lot of this still sucks really bad!!
They do. But only on the My Nintendo shop with a Japanese account. Not in stores. Which seems to to defeat the purpose in a way. A bit counterintuitive.
it turns out the updates are download codes. wheres ur update??? i cant believe that u cant imagine why people paying 90-100$ WITH TAX for an original switch game and download. thats even worse. you cant actually believe thats what physical collectors want. its literally the opposite!!!!!!!!!!!
i just cant believe ur mocking your viewers for legitimate concerns who are VIDEO GAME COLLECTORS and then NOT updating the info. there seems to be just a lil bit of disconnection here..
as a collector you might as well be pissed but instead ur on here laughin at ur viewers and other collectors legitimate concerns. please make an update.......
u just legitamtely shitted on the physical gaming community by hyperbolizing and poo pooing their acutal concerns but cool....... no one thought that. everyone was concerned the upgrades and games werent actually on physical. and look at that. they were right. weres the update????
and games are still supposed to be 90-100$ with tax..... but sure just laugh at people and lie about people who are concerned that the price of marko kart is $100...............
i mean its fine to not care about physical game at all but to suggest that people are upset over nothing (game and updates not on card), you are entirely wrong. so you had to hyperbolize and poo poo away peoples legitimate concerns. i expec to see an update about this. i expected A LOT MORE from you
this is coming off like u think ur fan base is stupid and easy to take advantage of. people have reason to be concerned dude. if u cant see that i would encourage just a tiny little bit of introspection for a few moments this post waving ppl away for real shit is totally wild
instead of taking peoples legitimate concerns to heart you treated them as irrelevant. a little introspection instead of shitting on ur fan base would be nice.........
games are expected to be 90-100 WITH tax by the way. if that 100 is coming outta ur pocked it doesnt matter what they list the prices without taxes as......
a. the physcal games are supposed to be 90-100$ WITH tax
b. no one thought that. if they did everyone would have been freakin. now theyre just freakint a lil. nintendo has the biggest retro video game collecting community in the entire world by a LOT.
which they killed with a final sling shot by not releasing the full game on cards. or even the upgrade. i mean if u dont think people are gona be pissed at that u clearly have no involvement with the physical retro gaming trading and used video game community and market.
There would still have been sticker shock for sure, but it would at least be an official declaration.
They would also have had control of the narrative. Right now it’s completely out of their hands and it’s going to take a massive amount of effort to regain control.
It's entirely their own fault and now misinformation will continue for months if not years because they refused to be honest. This decision comes off as underhanded and is now dominating the discussion rather than the games or console.
If you've ever been in a store like Target or Walmart where digital-only games were being sold on a card, like a piece of cardboard/plastic, it's basically like a new version of that.
The cartridge gives you permission to install the game from the eShop.
By raising prices by almost a third of the original price for a game, Nintendo also opened the lid for other companies to do the same, which made a lot of people angry because it means that game prices are going to get higher.
Not only that, but the cartridge only allows you to download the game from the internet, you don’t even really own it anymore. It’s not like a 3ds game where the stuff would be stored on the cartridge itself.
And all this as a Nintendo fan and person who buys their games
Nintendo's first party games & some 3rd party games will be complete on the cartridge while other 3rd party pubs will do game key cards. How is this different from now?
They are already doing this now but without the whole "game key card" label.
The game key card is different from a download code in a box because you need to use the physical game cartridge to play the game. Presumably, it doesn't tie the game to your Nintendo account so you can lend or sell it like a physical game. Some Switch 1 games are already like that.
Probably because the game wouldn’t fit on the card. We don’t know how much data the new game cards can hold, or how large the average game will be now, but a publisher probably won’t want to spend more money on a 64GB card when they can just have you download the game.
I don't think that's true of all games. Right now we have cards with codes on them alongside physical copies and they never said this would replace physical at all.
the 90 buck missinfo is completely fair when europe IS getting physical games for 10+ than digital,
it's also a thing in japan! (1000 yen difference)
only US has the same price for digital and physical!!
Which leads to a conversation about why aren’t digital games cheaper than physical one in every region. Especially now that we’re in stupid tariff-world.
I think companies still want to save face to an extent and not immediately kill all physical sales... besides nintendo now
I wouldn't be surprised if this does push sony to do the same on the ps6 though (and i doubt MS will have physical next gen, whatever form that takes)
Switch games have always been around $90 in Australia because our economy is fucked, and yeah I used to save up and buy only one a year but now I don't bother anymore. Buying second hand only knocks like $$10 off the price, too
sorry I must’ve been blind but I swear the switch games here are like, $70 at EB games??? like I’m pretty sure that’s the usual unless it’s a state thing idk.
god I wish we lived in a world where none of these technologies were branded as AI. unfortunately we're in a time where all of them are, because buzzwords sell
i love these people. totally doesn’t make me want to not play video games out of fear that they will yell at me just for correcting them and NOT defending them /s
Because maybe you are in bad faith. You can't counter facts so you belittle people.
Mob mentality.
Classic consumerist slave behavior.
You have Stockholm syndrome.
I'm european. What does dorito fuck has to do with me?
You're blatantly lying. It's not your right to "correct" anyone. You're not a messiah or something. You're just a random.
Keep telling lies. Sources are on the internet pages. I'm not inventing anything. Enjoy spending 80/90 € for owning nothing
Hey I'm sorry, if you're living paycheck to paycheck then you probably shouldn't be buying a console at launch. And you probably shouldn't be buying games that aren't on sale or used. I'm so tired of the entitlement that everyone deserves "cheap" games (if you think $60 is cheap you are not poor).
I’ll wait to see if they will stick to this pricing
Since I am Brazilian and it’s always tied to the dollar the game will cost a bloody fortune, not only that Nintendo broke my trust with Switch 1, it’s one thing to pay for an overpriced game, another to pay for
No I'm sorry, I'm going to defend myself on this one. $450 is a credit card payment. $90 is a week of groceries if you're stretching. The fact that people are getting poorer doesn't mean Nintendo needs to run at a loss, it means society needs to catch up.
Japan starts their fiscal years in other countries q2. They probably skipped April First because of American cultural confusion so I get why they had announcements on 4/2.
I don't think these prices are based on tarrifs considering the prices i have seen for europe. If tarrifs effect the video games the price will get increased further.
they kinda did at least the second thing
they talked about increased read speeds on the game cards and i feel like anyone with a brain would be able to put two and two together
bbut whatevvevrvevrbwjsbdjsbs
This is only for certain third party games if the publisher opts for that route, in the same vein as the Switch 1 games that just have a download code in the box. It won't be for every single Switch 2 game
Mario Kart is $80, the 90 number seems to be from people misinterpreting other currencies
no one thought it was for every single switch game so i dont know why u keep parroting that....people are legit concerned and now it comes out that they have reason to be.. the upgrades arent even on the cards. its just a download. and mario kart is expected to be 90-100 with tax so ur just shittin.
Your counterproof/evidence is...where? Spend money on the sloppy greed tactics only to prove to them it works. If they do it for one game, how long do you think before "not all games" becomes "damn, y'all remember when-"
could have sworn it was in the direct but i couldnt find it between the skimming the 45minute video and not getting ran over while crossing the road
anyway games with "game-key" banner on the bottom are game key games, if they dont have that then they are normal games
This kind is kinda why we have the current reject leading a country... Ignoring the glaring red signs. If the information is true "for some games," then it's not misinformation, y'all are just willing to overlook it by doing Nintendo's job for them and redirecting attention to the not-problems.
you are painting it as every game when its not tho
how about re-evaluate when its released and not doomposting about something we dont know the specifics of
when did this get political anyway?
Maybe the German in me speaks but I feel tremendous Schadenfreude. Nintendo clearly tried to avoid making the price the talking center and it backfired horribly. made them look unnecessarily untransparent to their potential customers
I think it would have been the same if they had displayed the price in the conference
it's the price in itself that is upsetting people, it was given clearly on their website, localized per country and tax regime (something that would have been annoying to do in a live stream)

It’s unacceptable that they didn’t have someone officially clarify things the same day or first thing Thursday.
Side note: would really like BlueSky to prioritize an edit feature.
Also, the world isn't beholden to one country's idiocy anyway. Why hold every region by the US's inflated prices?
The last major thing I can remember was them apologizing for the launch of the 3DS and that took months.
I'm afraid I'm already used to getting screwed over by Euro prices at this point though 🙃
The problem is Nintendo is incredibly slow to react to things like this. I said somewhere else here that they should have had someone out to clarify everything later Wednesday or first thing Thursday.
Still bad, but for a digital player like me, idgaf
Although I’ll probably still get a physical copy eventually when I see it second hand at a decent price lol
I hate my country.
Considering this is the first time ever a Nintendo Console has cost differently in other countries, I think we have all the proof we need to show that they're anticipating it
Can we put them in a human sized sling shot yet?
Switch 2 has a surprising amount of backwards compatibility with the controllers&games for a company trying to rob me blind.
I wasn't dunking on the financially strapped.
Hope that clear it up.
Direct your jagged anger at something else. Stranger should not have to be your punching bag.
Like did anyone know the charging joycon grip has the extra buttons at the back like the pro controller? Cause I only found out on the specs page
I mean I'm glad they try to counter scalpers but this part is weird
b. no one thought that. if they did everyone would have been freakin. now theyre just freakint a lil. nintendo has the biggest retro video game collecting community in the entire world by a LOT.
They would also have had control of the narrative. Right now it’s completely out of their hands and it’s going to take a massive amount of effort to regain control.
People WANT to be angry. And when you point out that that reason for being angry is actually a bit less bad, they flip out.
They put it all on the website. Its not their fault people don't choose put reading and comprehension together
$80 for one game is still wild, though, even if it is something like MKW or Bananza
The incomplete game card thing is just a terrible move with no purpose and would have gotten sacked regardless of how they brought it up
The cartridge gives you permission to install the game from the eShop.
If it doesn't have the disclaimer on the bottom, like Donkey Kong Bananza, the full game is on the cart.
And all this as a Nintendo fan and person who buys their games
They are already doing this now but without the whole "game key card" label.
Though when people pointed out that it's actually any Micro SD EX, they did graciously correct themself. So that was good to see at least, haha.
it's also a thing in japan! (1000 yen difference)
only US has the same price for digital and physical!!
I wouldn't be surprised if this does push sony to do the same on the ps6 though (and i doubt MS will have physical next gen, whatever form that takes)
It’s obvious that everyone is trying to move away from it as cost cutting measure and they’re probably right to, but I hope it’s still an option
Never change Internet
Please change internet
i love these people. totally doesn’t make me want to not play video games out of fear that they will yell at me just for correcting them and NOT defending them /s
You can hate a corporation's obvious greedy capitalist practices AND call people out for spreading blatant lies and misinformation. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Mob mentality.
Classic consumerist slave behavior.
You have Stockholm syndrome.
it’s slave behavior to try mitigate literal lies
I’m in bad faith for wanting things to be clear
okay cool. this kind goalpost moving is totally not one of the reasons why an orange fuck face is the President right now
You're blatantly lying. It's not your right to "correct" anyone. You're not a messiah or something. You're just a random.
Keep telling lies. Sources are on the internet pages. I'm not inventing anything. Enjoy spending 80/90 € for owning nothing
One less funko pop, or marvel legends
A Starbucks visit
I don't get the "priced out" argument
I guarantee all of us spend ten-100 bucks on all kinds of disposable overpriced crap every week/month
$8 latte but "refuse to pay $80 game"
absolute privilege. This guy doesn't live paycheck to paycheck and it shows.
I’ll wait to see if they will stick to this pricing
Since I am Brazilian and it’s always tied to the dollar the game will cost a bloody fortune, not only that Nintendo broke my trust with Switch 1, it’s one thing to pay for an overpriced game, another to pay for
As for the game key card situation, they're on their own for that one.
they talked about increased read speeds on the game cards and i feel like anyone with a brain would be able to put two and two together
bbut whatevvevrvevrbwjsbdjsbs
Nintendo literally told us in the direct why
Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza do not have that banner
If anything this is an upgrade to code in box games since it probably allows you to transfer it between systems and maybe even resell the game.
Mario Kart is $80, the 90 number seems to be from people misinterpreting other currencies
you didnt even watch the direct did you, just here to stay mad
ill be mad at the ones that are key downloads specifically while acknowledging the carts that are the same as every other one with the full game on
anyway games with "game-key" banner on the bottom are game key games, if they dont have that then they are normal games
how about re-evaluate when its released and not doomposting about something we dont know the specifics of
when did this get political anyway?
On Amazon France the switch 2 is 30 euros less (439 euros), and games are 20 euros less (Mario Kart World is 69 euros)
(just for your information)
it's the price in itself that is upsetting people, it was given clearly on their website, localized per country and tax regime (something that would have been annoying to do in a live stream)
