Making responsible decisions at the bookstore by getting 3 more books than originally intended and then forgetting to use the gift card which was the whole reason you went oTL

I got the whole 7 book mistborn box set last year, and only got through a reread of 1 and new run-through of 2. And of course with the new stormlight i had to buy that... and the novellas... and do a full reread... i don't have a problem fuck you. 😒
I keep meaning to read What of Kings. Huge fan of Psalm, it's a warm bowl of soup for your heart. I'd also like to get a new Hobbit, mine is super beat up. Great selection here!
I resisted The Way of Kings for a very long time but finally read it when my friend raved about the series. I'm hooked, but sadly I am a slow reader. It took me... a long time to finish. Let's just say it was under a year.
I went in for Way of Kings, saw the new volume of WHA and had to have it, saw the Tolkein shelf next to the Sandersons and thought "Man I loved the Hobbit as a kid but never owned my own copy". And then Psalm was recommended to me a few months back and I saw it on the way out of the store.
If you enjoy Psalm, it has a sequel A Prayer for the Crown-Shy. Becky Chambers also has the Wayfarers books which I loved, as well as To Be Taught If Fortunate.
You know, in case you need ideas for using that gift card next time.
Seconding this rec of Psalm! honestly the best way I'd describe Chambers' sci-fi stories is "tender" but also "unflinching." The 1st Wayfarers book dealt with some VERY heavy stuff, but it also felt so loving and compassionate... can't recommend those books enough.
I have yet to read a book by Becky Chambers that wasn't great, frankly. Very cozy, low-stakes sci-fi vibes.
One of the books is literally about a group of people trapped at an interstellar gas station due to Stuff. They talk a lot, and learn about each other. It's great.
I really adore her stuff, and the Wayfarer series is probably my most recommended series.
It hits some major spider Robinson meets Douglas Adams vibes and a good dose of hope punk for me. Though I think I described Psalm as "campfire philosophy"
Way of Kings and Psalm are so different on the fantasy spectrum. I read them both last year and they're definitely in my top 10. I dream of living in the society presented in Psalm, it just makes more sense than what reality has to offer.
that was always the best thing about Bookman's, in Tucson..they kept any credits/gift cards in your name on file in the register..and reminded you at the checkout..my favorite book stores, ever.

Oh well
You’ll just have to go back… 😉
(Brimmed hat supremacy though)
Man, are you in for a treat.
Either you'll start reading it and you'll never sleep again. (On account of the reading)
OR
You drop it and crack the floor. (On account of the girth)
Buks!!

I hadn't heard of The Vela, so now I have something new to read! And by read, I mean buy for my growing TBR.
