Moode on the Raspberry Pi, with a $20 Creative Labs USB DAC to output to the Hi-Fi. MPDScribble, installed via the terminal, for LastFM connectivity. I stream to it from Tidal with BubbleUPnP, though it works directly with Apple Music and Spotify

You can set up an old RPi as a music streamer quite quickly using free Logitech Media Server software. And you can control it using an app on your phone.

Try installing Linux to an old laptop or PC, or dual boot, or boot from an external drive and have a play.

Soon you'll come up with a project you'd like to try and that's when you'll find the plethora of assistance out there.

At the very least you'll free yourself from the Microsoft Tax

You're in for a treat then. Unless you're into hardcore gaming, you're going to quickly realise the Linux desktop can do everything you need, with virtually no learning curve, and you may never need Windows again.

Put one on a USB and boot from that. There will be instructions on how to do this.

Try it out for 10 minutes and I'm sure you'll find your barriers fall away.

If you’re new to programming and you had to edit or write any scripts, look into using git for source control so you can have a history of what you did and can restore it if needed.

Are you using Raspbian? Also, do you know which iteration of Raspberry Pi you are using? I love seeing these little tinkering projects. I still haven't jumped into the Raspberry Pi ecosystem, but that time is coming. I'm just tinkering with Arduino for now. 👍

One of my old jobs some of our team set up a raspberry Pi to show a red light when our software pipeline failed. They were so pleased and it felt a bit to point out that the tiny red light was a bit sub optimal as a ‘fix this!!!’ signal to a large group of people :)
