feel like a lot of people maybe over-internalized the part of the myth about not flying too close to the sun and don't pay that much attention to the part about if Icarus flew too low the wings would get damp and he would fall into the sea and die

back in the day if you fell into the sea in any capacity, that was pretty much it! swimming was not invented until 700 A.D, by the hated and indolent proto-French
it’s such a sad story! people also miss that the only reason he was imprisoned (and thus fashioning wings to escape) was to pay for the crimes of his father. Poor Icarus.
also flying "too close to the sun" is not real. the higher you fly the colder it is actually. the wax should not have melted. and don't get me started on getting trapped inside a labyrinth you yourself designed!
I have created many more things than those of which I have a clear and coherent memory. I have every confidence that I could totally inadvertently trap myself in a labyrinth of my own design.
It's not the worst of all possible super powers, to set something down and cast it spontaneously through spacetime, or entirely out of the Cosmos, but it definitely sucks a whole hell of a lot.
From the top of my head I can think of about half a dozen Dutch sayings that all roughly mean "don't try and rise above your station or we'll kill you" and I think that says a lot about us as a people.
