Discord you really do not wanna be going down this road, dude. Your community's good faith has been dwindling for a long while now, and there are plenty of other video calling/messaging platforms that could easily swipe up your spot in a day. It's not too late to pull back bro

The investment in tech paradise has kinda crashed recently and Discord was Ponzi Scheming is way to service us this way.
So it needs sustenance or it will die anyway.
Too much knowledge that used to be in wikis and forums is now obfuscated in various Discord channels that aren't indexable by search engines. It's ridiculous.
to the app i belong
WEST VENTRILO, MUMBLE MAMA
TEAMSPEAK HOME, COUNTRY ROADS
further down though, the article states that discord wants to go public as soon as this year. fear this :(
If even half the user base bought nitro, it probably wouldn't need any ad support.
By cutting off their revenue stream, it makes them even more dependent on other sources of income that people are opposed to.
Discord seems to have given in to the pressure of revenue...
It's definitely not at the level of adoption of Discord, but if we can do it for Bluesky...

1: I know it's integrated into their shitty quest system that you can theoretically disable. you can't disable them as it is now so i dont expect it to disable the entire feature, just the third party ads. we'll see
2: dont do discourse in the replies i beg you
the icing on the cake will be if they force this shit down the throats of Nitro users as well
Its all down hill from there.
This is just the tech bro circle of life. Found a community of people that will build your brand for you hype you up bring in users then rug pull and go corporate.
As for bluesky, yeah. There's a little difference, tho — Open protocol and decentralization like email, IRC, etc. If one day they e.g. mess up with the algorithm I just code my own.
It's useful to understand how/why something is broken in order to develop fixes. And to tell others who may not yet be convinced.
Has the program crashed due to "memory leak" or simply because it's written in C?
