I’ll leave you with these maps, missing constituencies won’t change the overall pattern much.
Light blue = AfD
Last map = AfD % for second vote (party vote).
If you really think that these maps show the far right has been defeated, then I honestly don’t know what else to say.

Voters pick the original, not the copycat.
Don’t cosplay Reform!
They fought *far* harder to stop Green than Reform at the last election. They actively conspired to stop the incredibly mild Corbyn (who wouldn't have achieved much with them in his Cabinet anyway).
They learned to absolutely never ever let anyone on the left be put in front of the membership as a candidate again.
If they were bothered about losing to the Right they wouldn't have conspired to do so in 2017 and 2019
I’ll leave it at that.
/end (really now)
I would not conclude this—not because I think this scenario is impossible, I don’t think it is—but because I know of the power of anti-immigration narratives and disinformation etc.

Only way to mitigate would be a really good government bringing positive change.
Do I believe Merz can? No.
But, in fairness, people can always choose to rise to the occasion. And quite a few German politicians have in the past.
I will very gladly be proven wrong on all that I’ve said here. I’d be delighted.
No-one seems interested in the historical precedent .
Anti-democratic parties in Germany don't need a majority to destroy a functioning democracy
They just need to get big enough to usher in the #1 German Angst - Chaos, and then offer an "ordentlich" alternative
Tanja, show AfD support almost entirely in the former GDR. So
you think, then, that they can expand their influence into the former West Germany?
Whatever, a priority for Merz must be addressing the many problems of the former East.
The first thing to realise is that they actively conspired to give us My and Johnson (and Truss and Sunak) rather than the mildest most consensus-seeking man you can imagine to mildly curb the exploitation.
losing to the left is *far* scarier to them than any fascism.
