I've recently heard someone talk about deliberately referring to it as "adult artwork" rather than "(furry) porn" when talking about the things NSFW furry artists make as to highlight the self-expression aspect over it being mere wank-material and thus make it look/sound like it's not *really* art.

Personally, I think it's mostly an intent thing but even that's got about a thousand qualifiers on it. The question that needs to be asked is "What is this trying to say" and if the answer isn't "Nothing", it's art. I think that's the most honest and fair way to define the term.

Both the extensive portfolio they may have, and having to do so entirely with something that may not work in a much different situation. While Kink and sfw spaces cross pollinate a lot on the internet, they do have different behavioral Dynamics, which are deeply stressful to manage.

Not only that but the delegitimization of Kink art in the popular eye is very much tied to the specific prejudices of puritanism and how it coincides with Christian nationalism and so on. And the fact that people don't know that and refuse to like learn it is deeply upsetting.
