a wheelchair is simultaneously freedom, and all in the same, a restriction. We need to stop seeing mobility aids as one or the other... when in fact they are both. And, we need to lean into that conversation a whole lot harder.

For me, it’s far more nuanced than that. I hear your point and I think it’s valid 1000%…As a non ambulatory wheelchair user, I see your POV, I just don’t subscribe to that idea. I know there are limits that my chair has obvi. I’m not gonna let my chair stop me from living my best life. Period.
And partially that’s society’s blame for not fully accommodating to the bare minimum accessibility needs of the disabled. Once we (abled bodied people included) reframe that narrative then and only then we will have a fighting chance to be on level playing field
