Hey another Avid question for y’all! Is there any way (outside of cmd+shift+f) to use a 3rd monitor as a client monitor? Do I need a breakout box? #postsky

I have a third , 27” 4k usb c that I use as a full frame output. Used to have it on a BM mini monitor HD but now it’s on an ultra 4k mini. Also a 4th is an iPad for scopes on Resolve. That uses Duet.
I thought as much. Premiere makes it so easy with software but then you have to use premiere 😂 I actually like premiere too so no real shade, I’m just currently on Avid.
Since shift-cmd-F works on Avid, that’s what I do when I log into my remote Avid, I don’t see the issue. It makes the screen you set to go full screen. How does Premiere do it different?
You can do that in Avid. There's native NDI output support. So if you use that and the free NDI monitor software on a spare display (or even another computer) you can have that.
My main issue with it is that it doesn’t always stay up. There are instances where I open/close something or click somewhere on the desktop it sometimes decides to disappear, and with my client monitor behind me I don’t always notice. It would be nice to have a dedicated uninterrupted feed.
You do… I recently splurged for my home setup and got a BMD UltraStudio monitor, which is a very cheap way to connect a client monitor via USB-C and HDMI. (it’s about $115 iirc)
That’s the one! Tiny little doohickey, I’ve used it with Premiere, Avid, and Resolve. The only significant wrinkle so far is Premiere just passes its output signal straight through, so if your sequence is in a non-16x9 aspect ratio, your client image will be stretched.
BMD mini monitor works great, although since everything went WFH / Jump remote connections, I’ve used full screen playback in avid with no issues on my remote systems.
My biggest issue is having the client monitor be a dedicated feed so there are no unintended interruptions. I do director cuts at my house and my monitor for the director is behind me so having something more reliable is ideal.
