I mean, which parts? Cuts play well, but do the security breaches?

(Some of this is also going to be regional- some very apolitical people at my work are increasingly angry about the threat of tariffs.)

For the most part, my experience always tells me that very few people are capable of understanding the gravity of these security breaches, but beyond that, we're also dealing with an national information environment that isn't even *calling* what's happening security breaches.

Tariffs I think were always gonna come to a point when they became unpopular because you can't really hide the football on those, as it were. Those make prices go up directly, and you can't handwave that away. What DOGE is doing can be handwaved away (for now).

The masses simply aren't going to care unless & until they are directly affected. They've been inundated with DECADES of non-stop Republican propaganda that bureaucracy is dumb and bad, so there are huge swaths of normies in this country that think that all of this is good.

The interesting thing is that the people likely to be first impacted by this, outside of highly educated/elite liberals, will be farmers and rural communities that are more heavily dependent on the feds for typical expenses.

Think how quick community health centers closed during the grant freeze.

Oh yeah, absolutely. Rural, red America will be the first to feel the sting, and it's going to be brutal. And the political only outcome I can imagine when they start complaining publicly is the Republican party basically telling them to stfu & go away.

I don’t think they’ll be able to ignore this class of folks, especially the heavily subsidized farmers. They hold a lot of power and are generationally connected to political networks.

I still don’t know the outcome, but they can’t write this group off. It’s why Trump bought them off last time.

Yeah, it's definitely going to be interesting watching it all play out. I live in rural, red America myself, and there's already a palpable sense of panic about funds that reportedly aren't heading our way. But nobody is drawing the lines between those missing funds & Republicans just yet.
