Pretty likely no more distant than fifth or sixth cousins unless his branch were pretty recent arrivals. Robert says pretty much all North American Weldons are from that same original family

The OG Weldons settled in eastern New Brunswick and around Halifax. From there one branch went to Boston and another to Montreal but the Montreal Weldons spread out to Ontario… my great-grandfather was a mining engineer in northern Ontario.
