@thriftyfoods.bsky.social am I missing something here? I know you’ve got loads of oranges to get rid of, and I actually think there’s a good argument not to boycott blue states, but maybe don’t advertise them directly below your ‘Buy Canadian’ sales banner?

If I want to avoid supporting Shopify whenever possible, does choosing Apple Pay instead of ShopPay cut them out?

If you’re starting your statement with “let me be clear”, you probably haven’t been very clear.

Criticism of booing the US anthem at professional sports events based on the “purity of sport” fall flat for me. Professional sports are not pure. They are an 80 billion dollar entertainment business. I enjoy professional sports a lot. But they are no more pure than Hollywood or a theme park.

No shit Sherlock. “This is where it is worth reflecting on a reality that Conservatives don’t like to accept: that Poilievre has a likability problem. The, all-contempt, all the-time approach was red meat for the Conservative base, but Canadians could be put off by the unrelenting negativity.”

As far as silver linings from the tariff crisis go, rehabilitating the 🇨🇦 flag from the freedumbers is a nice outcome.

Please enjoy my cartoon for Friday's Toronto Star

I’m not really the audience anyway, but this weekend seems bad timing for the Canadian release of a movie with the word “America” in the title.

Singing the national anthem at professional sporting events is an American thing. We should stop doing it in Canada. Unlike the USA we don’t need to indoctrinate our youth into an imperialist world view and glorification of our military.

Mindset reset: Right now, brave Ukrainians are defending their land & loved ones, at the cost of their sanity, limbs & lives. It’s an existential fight for their democracy & way of life. If the Russians lose, they go home. If the Ukrainians lose, they will be overrun & destroyed. #SlavaUkraini 🇺🇦

“On Friday, a Pallas poll suggested the Conservative lead in public support heading into the next election campaign is now just six percentage points — a stunning plunge from the 20-point lead pollsters registered a month ago”

We are estranged from our culture and we are to blame. “The Super Bowl’s the worst example – a shameless act of self-regard disguised as a competition. It’s designed that way. It’s the end of Clockwork Orange, but no one straps us into the brainwashing machine. We show up with a 6-pack and guac.”

The US is being taken over by a technocratic coup and some Americans still care about basketball!? How is resistance not the only thing America is talking about? Bread and Circuses I guess.

So, you had two choices: 1. Occasionally pick up some dog poop in front of your home; or 2. Always have a drawing of a dog pooping in front of your home.

Picking a fight with Canada has America looking like Jake Paul

So while Pierre is calling out the military to secure our borders (!?), the Liberals are facing down Trump and winning. This inevitable federal election gets more and more interesting.

A little late to the party Pierre. Take a seat, the adults are talking.

Musk's Junta Establishes Him as Head of Government “The G-7 country’s newly installed president, a mid-level oligarch named Donald Trump, appeared amid Musk’s moves to be increasingly merely a figurehead head of state.”

Until the USA grows up I’m not buying their products. Whether or not Trump goes through with the tariff threats.

This photograph was taken two days ago at the FBI Academy in Quantico and submitted to the NYT under the condition of anonymity. If a picture is usually worth a thousand words, this one is worth millions.

“Approximately a month ago, following Freeland’s dramatic exit from the Liberal cabinet, the Conservatives opened up a seemingly insurmountable lead of 25 points. Since then, this massive lead has virtually evaporated.”

Just three days until it’s time to boycott American products. I guess I’d better savour these oranges.

The 2025 model comes with a copy of Mein Kampf.

In October 2023, a right-wing government swept to power in New Zealand on a wave of populist anger similar to Canada’s. The results so far? Government debt forecast to rise. The deficit got worse. Unemployment is increasing. Craig Renney writes.

Conservative supporters are so reliably gullible that scammers are targeting Poillievre supporters. Apologies if you get the sense I’m not outraged. “‘If you don't believe me, give me 300 Canadian dollars, and I'll make you a million in 3-4 months!’ Poilievre says in the fictitious article.”

“Smith’s position [is] that Canada must appease Trump at any cost. That, as history shows, is unlikely to work. ‘The main reason to retaliate is to start to try to level that bargaining table somewhat,’ Verheul explained.”
