I am bristling at the characterization of Ozempic as "an appetite suppressant" when it's actually able to at least partially reverse t2d. It's a life changing medication for diabetic folks, and weight loss/appetite suppression is a side effect.

This is an issue seen with a lot of meds... a company makes a month's supply of medication for $5-10, transportation and storage if it costs about $50-80, then they make charge 10-100 times that for profit purposes, and pharmacies charge 10-100 times that after they buy it to profit themselves.

This is on top of the fact that after the medical corporation charges 10-100 times the cost of it after making it, and the pharmacy buying it from the medical corporation charges 10-100 times the cost of buying it, insurance companies then charge 10-100 times the cost of the pharmacy. As a recovering anorexic, I'm very worried for the people who get prescribed this for weight loss. As someone who recently lost a friend to type 1 diabetes, I'm fucking livid at anything that takes medication away from diabetics. So many horrifying facets to this.

First of all, this is obviously profiteering. However, as bad as this is, long term use of Ozempic and other drugs of this class can cause significant muscle loss, which is bad for long term weight control. Bad deal on both fronts if you ask me.

I agree 100%. Except I blame the Republican party for refusing to allow any single payer type of system to protect all Americans, keep us from bankrupcy and stay healthy. Their selfishness (they call anti-Socialism) is the reason we all suffer as Americans if we get sick and are not filthy rich.

It gets dumber when the medication isn't used to treat obesity, it is used to treat issues like diabetes (which often occurs in people without obesity) as well as various other non-obesity related issues. They intentionally frame it as an obesity medication to downplay its real use and importance.
