ICE says she had an incorrect visa and she has been classed as an illegal alien.

In the UK a Writ of habeas corpus would have been issued to compel lawful justification of detention of a legal migrant without charge (if not held pursuant to anti-terrorism provisions, which the US has not, AFAIK, invoked against Khalil). Habeas corpus is (or was) still a thing in the US.

Khalil is a vile supporter of terrorism, but he isn't accused of a crime and he is lawfully present in the USA. He is exactly the sort of obnoxious person for whom civil liberties, including rights of free expression, exist. Rights are for everyone, or they aren't rights, they're privileges.
