Just watched “The Birdcage” for the first time, my two big takeaways are that the son Val is evil incarnate, and that Nathan Lane is an icon. His use of drag to endear Hackman while also being barely-veiled contemptuous critique is marvelous (as is Hackman’s utter failure to see the charade).
