I work for #NHS but today we’ve been told they’ve lost the contract & it’s been given to private provider Practice Plus. our service exceeded all targets, won 2 awards this year..& today this happens. Some of my colleagues have worked in the NHS for 25+ years & have been in tears. I am furious 😡
Private companies are not the same legally as public companies. You could attract less nitpicking if you were a bit more specific. For now, you might prefer to say eg ‘commercial companies’.
I have written to Wes Streeting this morning asking him to stop using private companies in the NHS, to fund it and support staff properly. I said that privatisation is divisive with a lack of joined up services and inefficiency and that the NHS is an essential and precious public service!
He is very unlikely to listen to me but if everyone joins together to say what I have said then he may have to listen. If he is getting backhanders, his corruption and treachery must be exposed. I am not arrogant enough to believe he listens to me at all, but I feel strongly enough to write to him.
Thanks for the info from https://www.opendemocracy.net. I am already in touch with the GoodLawProject. I am passionate about the NHS, a decent welfare system and equality. I do get very downhearted but try not to allow this to stop me writing to Streeting and my own MP, who is probably sick of me!!
I think there's a huge difference between using private contractors, where necessary, to bring in specific skills, and contracting out whole services or sections of the NHS to private providers. I'm for the former and against the latter.
Yes, I "profitted" just as an employee would have done, but my skills were worth more than they could pay an employee, so the project wouldn't now be delivering the benefits the patients value highly.
Also a reminder - private health companies are not charities nor are they philanthropic. Every single operation carried out diverts resources (consultants, anaesthetists) who could be performing the same operation for the NHS.

Streeting is too arrogant (unlike yourself) to listen.
Agree with you his corruption needs exposing. To others.
He’s beyond saving from himself.

I made a huge contribution to a multi-award winning new service.
